Moderators Minute May 2017

Hello to all from God’s Country. It’s so good to be finally back home to Newport, where we are all so fortunate to live. Think about it, we live in a part of this great country of ours that has been kissed by the hand of God. Others make plans to come here for vacation or a getaway spot and we live here, how great is that?

Since my last writing, the annual meeting of the Northwest Conference took place. Pastor Becky attended, along with Mike and Ann Wenger, as delegates for our church. Their report will be included in this edition of the Chimes. We celebrated Mother’s Day with a pancake breakfast after service on Sunday, May 14th. The breakfast was cooked and served by the men in appreciation of all you moms.

The Committee on Ministry has officially recognized Pastor Becky and granted her dual standing, meaning although she is still a Presbyterian minister she is now also a UCC minister in good standing. Congratulations Reverend Becky, and welcome to Newport United Church of Christ as our spiritual leader.

The weekend of June 2nd, 3rd and 4th will be extremely busy. June 2nd & 3rd will be our annual yard sale sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship and Trustees. The ladies will have items for the household, clothing, furniture and many other items. The men will have tools, sporting equipment and, back by popular demand, chili dogs, chips and soft drinks. There is something for everyone. June 4th is a big day. It is Pentecost Sunday (wear red), communion will also be served. In the afternoon at 4 pm will be Reverend Becky’s installation followed by a potluck meal in the Fellowship Hall. I hope to see you there for all these events. These are exciting times, please don’t miss out.

Summer is upon us, there will be many activities and events throughout the summer months. I sincerely hope you will make plans to attend and be a part of the activities.

This will be the last issue of the Chimes for a couple of months, so attend church, listen for announcements and watch the bulletin boards. There is a lot going on here in God’s Country, come and join the fun and activities. You’ll be glad you did.

Blessings to all, see ya this summer,

Bill Mitchell, Moderator
